Montana Firefighter Testing Consortium
The Montana Firefighter Testing Consortium typically conducts a joint testing process every year during the month of June for development of a list of qualified candidates for the position of entry-level firefighter with its member-departments. A passing score on the MFFTC’s test is merely one requirement to becoming a firefighter with the member departments. Each department may have qualifications and requirements in addition to those set forth in Montana Code Annotated, Section 7-33-4107. If an applicant has a question about working for a specific fire department, they should contact that department directly as the Consortium does not maintain this information. A passing score on the MFFTC test does not constitute an offer of employment.
Registration for the June 5-8, 2017 testing will be open mid morning, November 16th through 5 pm MST on March 24th, 2017. Registration is done through this website and Paypal.
You will get a confirmation from Paypal. You will not get anything from the Consortium until the beginning of April. Then everyone will be notified via e-mail and postcard of the web location to view all documents related to the June testing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO TEST
In order to take part in the MFFTC testing process, you must present a valid, government-issued, unexpired, I.D.(like a drivers license, military ID, etc), and be at least 18 years of age at the time of testing.
Qualifications with the individual departments vary greatly. One requirement of all is a minimum of EMT Basic certification either at the time of application or at the time of hire, depending on department. Please contact each department directly for their specific requirements. Packets outlining each department’s requirements and salary schedule will also be available to you after successful completion of the MFFTC test.
HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
The process consists of two parts: a written and a physical ability test. A passing score of 70% or better of the written portion is required before the candidate moves on to the physical ability portion of the testing process. Only scores received during our testing will be accepted for placement on the eligibility list. You must report in person to participate in the testing. There is no option to take any portion of the testing at an alternate location.
Job application materials from each consortium department will be available to candidates after they have successfully completed the testing process. Candidates will need to submit their applications to the department(s) for which they are interested in working. Each participating department has their own post-testing application process, each with separate deadlines. The qualified candidate pool will be used until the next testing session.
Successful completion of the testing process does not constitute an offer of employment.
The Montana Firefighter Testing Consortium makes reasonable accommodation for any known disability that may interfere with an applicant’s ability to participate in the recruitment and selection process. For the Montana Firefighter Testing Consortium to consider any such accommodation, the applicant must make known any needed accommodation after they register and submit proper documentation no later than 2 weeks prior to testing. Please call Sheri Hall at (406)447-8404 for instructions.
The Montana Firefighter Testing Consortium does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, sex, age, marital status, national origin, genetic information, political ideas, or disability in employment or in the provision of services by participating Fire Departments.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
After the successful completion of the written and physical testing procedure, candidates may be contacted by participating Fire Departments who may require that additional information be provided by each applicant.
The individual Fire Departments may choose to limit the number of candidates invited to participate in their selection process.
